I have a Debian Etch machine running Cyrus 2.2. We use it to access our mail through secure IMAP with Postfix as the MTA. Ever since we installed it it's run fine except for an annoying glitch. When browsing our IMAP folders with Thunderbird, sometimes all the messages in a folder will become unread. It appears to happen randomly and I can't for the life of me figure out why it's happening.
The permissions on the .seen files appear to be normal:
Code:
-rw------- 1 cyrus mail 4516 2007-01-02 20:29 /var/lib/cyrus/user/m/mike.seen
We don't have trouble using Thunderbird with a host of other IMAP accounts, so I'm pretty sure it's not the mail client.
I would appreciate if anyone could offer some hints or a solution. I haven't heard of this problem happening before (although I have heard cases where messages consistently come up as unread, due to problems with .seen file permission, but I'm pretty sure that's not the case here).

Hello, I have experienced the same problem using cyrus 2.2.13 and thunderbird. I don't know if the email reader is the cause of the problem, but after hours of search I finally found how to solve it. You simply can remove the .seen file for the account on which the problem appears. This file will be recreated automatically the next time you will use the account.

Thanks for the reply.
I'm also using 2.2.13 (v2.2.13-Debian-2.2.13-10). Unfortunately deleting the .seen files doesn't solve the problem (this was another thing I had tried). It also seems to happen with multiple mail clients, so I can only assume the culprit is the particular Debian setup I have that is triggering the problem.
When I am creating a user in my mail server it informs the folowing message:
Warning: imap_open(): Couldn't open stream {127.0.0.1:143/notls}INBOX in /var/www/admuser/inclui.php on line 445
Não foi possível conectar ao servidor IMAP.
