crontab -e vs /etc/cron.*
What is the difference between using crontab -e to add new cron jobs and manually putting shell scripts in, let's say /etc/cron.daily ?
For one, crontab -e can be used by non-root users. Additionally, crontab -e allows more fine-grained control over timing than cron.daily.
