Creative Live USB Camera

Hello all;

I am using Xubuntu, but as the core system is the same as in Ubuntu, I am posting this problem here...

I have a very old Creative Live! Webcam, and I want it to work with Skype or other programs under Xubuntu.
I have tested it With the "Cheese" program and with Skype, installed from the 10.04 Ubuntu package available from Skype website.
The web cam does not work in either of them. Running in the console "lsusb" command I obtain the following output:
Code:
alberto@alberto-desktop:~$ lsusb
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 005 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 041e:4036 Creative Technology, Ltd Webcam Live!/Live! Pro
Bus 004 Device 002: ID 046d:c52f Logitech, Inc. Wireless Mouse M305
alberto@alberto-desktop:~$
How couls I make my camera to work? Thank you all in advance.
Regards,

As shown here, your camera is supported by the zc3xx variation of the gspca module (gspca_zc3xx), so it should work plug n play.

http://www.cyberciti.biz/files/linux...inux/gspca.txt

But since all these refer to the latest version of gspca, and thus the latest version of the kernel, I can not tell if it will be the same on ubuntu 10.04's 2.6.32 kernel...

Please check on your own with modinfo like so
Code:
$ sudo modinfo gspca_zc3xx | grep 041E
alias: usb:v041Ep4053d*dc*dsc*dp*ic*isc*ip*
alias: usb:v041Ep4051d*dc*dsc*dp*ic*isc*ip*
alias: usb:v041Ep403Ad*dc*dsc*dp*ic*isc*ip*
alias: usb:v041Ep4036d*dc*dsc*dp*ic*isc*ip*
alias: usb:v041Ep4035d*dc*dsc*dp*ic*isc*ip*
alias: usb:v041Ep4034d*dc*dsc*dp*ic*isc*ip*
alias: usb:v041Ep4029d*dc*dsc*dp*ic*isc*ip*
alias: usb:v041Ep4022d*dc*dsc*dp*ic*isc*ip*
alias: usb:v041Ep401Fd*dc*dsc*dp*ic*isc*ip*
alias: usb:v041Ep401Ed*dc*dsc*dp*ic*isc*ip*
alias: usb:v041Ep401Cd*dc*dsc*dp*ic*isc*ip*
alias: usb:v041Ep4017d*dc*dsc*dp*ic*isc*ip*
alias: usb:v041Ep041Ed*dc*dsc*dp*ic*isc*ip*
The highlighted line lists the vendor and product id of your camera and this is from kernel 3.2.

Thank you !!

I am working with the latest version of the kernel, in Xubuntu 12.04, i think it is the kernel 3.2.0-24?
THe package of Skype is built for Ubuntu 10.04, and newer releases, that was what I was trying to specify...
So, how can I proceed withthat variation of gspca module? Just install it, reboot and try?

Thanks again,

Well... you can also check this from the live enviroment if you don't want to install. It is the safest choice if you want to avoid the hussle of installing.

THe question is both Ubuntu 12.04 and Xubuntu 12.04 are supposed to have the same core system, and while in Ubuntu, my hardware worked (WebCam, photo camera detected as usb device for photo extraction), in Xubuntu neither of them work.
Any other clue I could try?

Thank you....
