create .deb ???

Hi, I'm new to debian, what i want to do is create a .deb package from some php scripts i have.
so that when i install this package it puts all those scripts inside /usr/local/share/scripts for example and a symbolic link to /var/www/ that points to them. is this possible? i also want updating this package to be easy. i read the tutorials about making .deb but they just confuse me

If the package is SIMPLE, or if you don't plan to put this in a large repository, you can use CheckInstall.
