cp and rm commands automatically overwrite

I just installed Debian sarge using the new installer (beta 3). Previously, I had been using Knoppix to install. When using Knoppix, if I enter the "cp" command or "rm" command as root, it warns me before overwriting files. With the system installed by the new installer, if I enter "cp" or "rm" commands, it simply does it and overwrites without asking. I see from "man cp" that you can set "interactive" using -i to get prompted. Is there a way to set it up so that I am prompted by default (like in Knoppix)?

alias rm "rm -i"

At least that what i think it is. Try looking in the bash man page about the correct syntax for alias, or in .bash_profile

Thanks. The "alias" lines are in the root .bashrc file. I just had to uncomment them. Its working like I want it to now.
