If you are like me, you just left the original testing that came with the install. Then when you did your upgrade you jumped to testing. Just a guess though.
You are correct, that was exactly what I was doing.
What is in your /etc/apt/sources.list?
All of my entries are Sid.
What happens if you run (as root) apt-get -f install?

That's my problem!
I installed the hotplug, the 2.6.12 kernel, and all is right in the world!
