could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/
new install debian 4.0
need to learn lamp. want to try wajig for pkg management. at prompt typed apt-get wajig print read... E:could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (11 resource temporarily unavailable) E:unable to lock administration directory (var/lib/dpkg/ , is another process using it? what does this mean? can i install wajig while using debian 4.0 ? man says yes ...command line said no. I then found this in similar threads.. myself faced this problem by some how i fix it. You do the same thing here we gooooooooo. we are at root 1. mv /var/lib/dpkg/status __/var/lib/dpkg/status_bak 2. cp /var/backups/dpkg.status.<any latest number>.gz __/var/lib/dpkg/ 4. gunzip -d /var/lib/dpkg/dpkg.status.<any latest number>.gz 5. mv /var/lib/dpkg/dpkg.status.<the number in third step> __/var/lib/dpkg/status 6. apt-get updates what does latest number mean? in the above statement... another thing i read about this said Hello, the problem is that Synaptics acquires the lock. if this is the problem how do i unlock synaptic ? i then read... sudo rm /var/lib/apt/list/lock i typed this and was asked for password...i typed root...no good i typed userpassword and got the following print. krash is not in the sudoers file. this incident will be reported. I would just like to say that nothing is going right...and.. I would love to give this all up and watch tv...but tv is bad for me.. |
