Configuring services, sshd and Samba

hi,

i'm still pretty new to Debian and am not sure how to use the APT & dpkg system just yet. i need to configure the SSH and Samba daemons, but am not sure what is the easiest way. during the install, i've always been presented with a text configuration interface for both SSH and Samba. this time i was not, and i'm not sure why. (i've tried base-config, tasksel, and dselect.)

how can i access this configuration interface? i need to get both of these services up and running ASAP.

If you are upgrading those packages, they are probably configuring using the old configuration files. You can edit the configuration files in the etc directory. Alternatively, you could try removing the packages and installing it again.

apt-get remove --purge ssh samba

had to use dpkg-reconfigure too. still didn't create the startup scripts though, which i did manually.
