Configuring mouse on Thinkpad R40 (debian )

I had a debian (with kernel version 2.6.8-2-386) on my IBM Thinkpad R40. From when i tried upgrading my kde to KDE3.5 and changing my XFree86 to XORG, the xserver does not start. It seems that it will not configure my mouse.

i'll get the following error:
Cannot open device /dev/psaux
no such device.

But the ls -l /dev/psaux will return
crw------- root (....) psaux

(I mean i have the device in my list with those permissions)

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,

You can try dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

When you upgraded kde and XF86(saved XF86-Config-4) did the kernel and other pkgs also get upgraded?

I assume you have a synaptics/alps touchpad/trackpoint, is so make sure xfree86-driver-synaptics is installed. Don't let the name fool you, it is also the name of the xorg module.
