compiz: window titlebar missing after monitor replacement

i am running mepis 8 fully updated. i have had compiz installed & working flawlessly for a long time. i use it quite often to impress friends as well as my self. the compiz version that i was using is the one in the debian repositories. it was fully functional & the cube, wobbly windows, & all of the other effects worked.

the version of compiz is from the debian repositories.
compiz has worked perfectly for over six months.

all of this time, i was using a old dell 17" crt monitor & the system resolution was at 1024x768. i am using a NVidia GForce2 mx400 agp card.
i am using the NVidia 96.43.07 drivers.

last week, i decided to replace the dell monitor with a Viewsonic 19" LCD flat panel monitor. the only thing i did after connecting the monitor was that i used the nvidia-settings tool (as root) to change the resolution from 1024x768 to 1284x768. the next day, i went to try to use compiz & found that i no longer had the window titlebars. i also found that i could not minimize the windows to the taskbar by clicking on the button on the taskbar, i had to right click on the button in the titlebar & choose "minimize" that way.

i had used compiz just a couple of days before i replaced the monitor & it worked fine.

i have tried to re-install compiz (and all of it's extra components) with synaptic by completely uninstalling (and purging config files) & re-installing compiz. it still is doing the same thing.

what can i do to fix this?

as youre using mepis i assume youre on kde?
try:
kde-window-decorator &

[to quit compiz:
kwin --replace & ]

or opening compiz-config-settings-manager, windows/effects and add:
kde-window-decorator --replace

or:
making use of the fusion-icon

might be it helps, might be it doesnt. good luck

i have the fusion-icon, it does list KDE window decorator under the "window decorator" list.

in the compiz-comfig-settings-manager - windows/effects, it already has that command "kde-window-decorator --replace" showing in the window-decoration plug-in settings dialog.

i believe the problem may a bug in ether KDE, Compiz, or the chosen resolution is not supported in Compiz.

its a while ago i used compiz (and i didnt have that no-titlebar problem myself).
The side which offers the solutions above says it happens if compiz doesnt start correct. It says to start it correct one woud need to run kde-window-decorator & or, make it permanent, make use of the fusion-icon.
if you run "compiz --replace &" or "kde-window-decorator &" from a terminal it might be you get some usefull error-messages.

(did you check if xorg.conf settings are still correct?)
