compiling X.org from cvs

i followed the xorg cvs howto's

But when the compiling start make enters a directoy and tells me there is nothing to do and leaves the directory. In the end offcouse xorg is not compiled; there is nothing compiled.

I think i am missing crucial packages or something. I already added

cvs flex bison libpam-dev libpng-dev libfontconfig-dev libxft-dev automake1.9

But still nothing??? I am using the debian bases SimplyMepis 03.
