Compact Flash Installation

I am trying to get a version of debian running on a 512mb Compact Flash card.

I have managed to get a graphical system up and running. My aim now is to try and minimise disk activity. I did try the obvious and set the "ro" kernel option, but this just stopped it booting, as i was getting errors when trying to write log files.

So what I would like to do, is stop ALL automatic disk writing. I dont want a full readonly system.

How can I turn off ALL writing to log files?

I have created a 16mb RAMDRIVE. Can I write all logs to there? This would still allow me to see any error logs etc, but they will dissapear when rebooted.

The only safe way to run Linux from a flash device is to have the ENTIRE system in a RAMDisk.

You can't mount the CF card as the root file system without completely destroying it.
