Combine Ubuntu and Debian

If I wanted the hardware support of Ubuntu 6.06 and Xorg combined with the latest stable version of Sarge, where could I look for a guide?

It probably doesn't exist. But what you can do to get the hardware support of Ubuntu on Sarge is to recompile the kernel with a 2.6.16 kernel. As for Xorg, you could try using backports.org. I've never had much luck with backports and I suspect installing Xorg would be a major change for since Sarge uses XFree86 still.

Really though, if you want a very stable system with Xorg and a new kernel, you should be able to just install Etch (debian testing). It'll have a 2.6.16 (maybe even 2.6.17) and will be at least as stable as Ubuntu, probably more so. Etch is set to become the new stable version sometime in December 2006...

Etch will probably provide the hardware support you're looking for as well

Why should Debian combine itself with a child distro that is based on an unstable version of itself?

Isn't that more like reassimilating?
