changing screen resolution..

hey guys i was jsut wondering how would i be able to change my screen resolution to 1280x1024 ?.. i currently installed debian with only 1024x768 or something lol

Which window manager are you running ?

You should be able to do this either through one of the built in GUI's (eg. kxconfig, if you're using KDE) or through some editing of the odd configuration file (XF86Config-4 springs to mind

Well, first check whether you have kxconfig (may have to run it via a shell, using gksu). If there is, then it would probably be simplest to use that. If not, then check the bottom section of your XF86Config-4 file for a section labelled Screen, and subsection(s) labelled Display. There should be the screen resolutions ('Modes') or each colour depth. Have a quick glance at the manual page, then edit at will.

#dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86

Take the Advanced option, enter your horiz and vertical frequencies, mouse and it will give you a list of resolutions, you can choose the one you want.
