Cannot remove desktop icons in KDE
Hi, I recently installed Debian using the Knoppix live CD and apt-get. I am using KDE 3.3.1, but have come across a problem with the desktop icons. After the initial install there were icons for all of my filesystems and removal media on the desktop. This was not to my liking so I entered the KDE Control Centre - Desktop and found that KDE was setup not to show any icons on the desktop. So, my question is whether Debian (or Knoppix) stores the Desktop icon settings elsewhere? By the way, if I delete these icons manually they return on rebooting into KDE.

Is this a debian or knoppix install?
You mentioned knoppix, so the desktopicons are recreated by /usr/bin/mkdesktophdicons A dirty hack would be: chmod 0 /usr/bin/mkdesktophdicons Otherwise try editing /etc/init.d/knoppix-autoconfig (make a backup first) |
It's a Knoppix install. Sorry I should have made that clearer. I will give your suggestions a shot.
