Cannot connect to X server
OK. After much badgering by other members here and some on other forums I decided to remove my Lindows installation that worked just fine, and replace it with Debian. I used downloaded 8 part CD set, which it turns out only four of them get used.
Once all the setup is done I get to the exciting part of starting up my fabulous new debian machine, which I have been told so many times is so much better than Lindows. Only it won't go. It'll start Linux sure enough, but no desktop. It syas in the stream of WOBT on the screen that it has started KDE [done], but it is still very much WOBT. Furthermore, when I give it the command Konqueror, it thinks for a while and then says: Error: Cannot connect to X Server. So here I am back in Windows to ask this question. IS this something I have missed in the installation, or shall I just go back to Lindows and accept my fate? Nick |

What does "WOBT mean? Does X start up? What's in your /var/log/XFree86.0.log? |

Not sure. It's late here so I'll look tomorrow. Thanks for the interest. Nick |
