Cannot boot any Debian System
 

Hi there,

I tried installing different Debian based distributions, the last one being elive. During the installation the installer detects my hardware ok and labeles my 3 physical hard discs with sda, sdb and sdc (all SATA).
I have installed to a partition on sda and the installation works fine. However booting from the harddrive fails, as the hardware detection switches the order of the hard discs labling the former sda now sdc. The result is that the system cannot find its root partition.

As my linux knowledge is negligible, could someone point me in the right direction where to look at to resolve the issue?

The problem seems not to be related to elive as I tried other distributions as well and most of the failed during the installation.

My PC is selfmade with a Asus P4C800 deluxe and three SATA hdds. Two of them combined in a RAID 0 with the on board RAID controller.

If your bootloader is grub, then you need to change the device.map file to reflect the labeling you want to see. This file will be kept in /boot/grub and its organization is self-explanatory (or you can google it).

...and, yet, you put it in the Debian forum. Not sure why it's so hard to understand that Debian-based does not mean Debian. You really need to address the issues you have in the forum for whichever distro is currently troubling you. We're really good at trouble-shooting Debian, but the 100+ Debian-based distros are something else entirely.

Which two hard drives are used for the RAID?

You might want to try disabling the onboard RAID controller. Although it looks like that chipset should be supported.
