Can someone recommend a pop3 server?

[Log in to get rid of this advertisement]
Can someone recommend a pop3 server? There are apparently a dozen I can install on Debian (Lenny).

I just want a vanilla pop3 server (I guess?). I need it to grab any mail in the /var/spool/mail/username file and also ~username/mbox and ~username/mail/*

Any suggestions?

If you have any sort of mail installed at all, you should already have a pop server.

What happens if you do

telnet localhost 110

If it says anything in response, you have a popserver.

Possibly you THINK you need a pop server but actually need something else? Why not explain exactly what it is you are trying to solve?

Ok, I apparently DO have a pop server already, but it's not working. It gives an error:

There was a problem logging onto your mail server. Your Password was
rejected. Account: 'mymail', Server: 'newserver.mydomain.com',
Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR [SYS/TEMP] Failed to create /
var/spool/pop/.davidst.pop with uid 1000, gid 0. Change
permissions.', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90,
Error Number: 0x800CCC92

The directory /var/spool/pop/ has permissions: drwxrwsr-x root:mail

(sendmail is installed and is running as user smmsp)
