Can Aptitude install from Sources?

For apt, we can download the dependent headers and libraries with

Code:
apt-get build-dep somepackage
and to download and build the somepackage with

Code:
apt-get -b source somepackage
and install with

Code:
dpkg -i somepackage.deb
1) Are there any equivalent aptitude command(s)/options/parameters for
Code:
apt-get build-dep
and
Code:
apt-get -b source
?

2) I have been installing packages with aptitude. Will there be any dep issues if I start using apt for installation (if there is no equivalent command for the above) ? Can apt recognize packages / dep installed by aptitude?

Thanks !

1. You might want to look into 'apt-build', especially if it's some package that you're going to rebuild from time to time.

2. It will not matter which package manager program (aptitude, dselect, apt-get) you use to install your (debian) programs, they (package manager programs) use the same local package db that is maintained by dpkg & tools.

1. For 'apt-get -b source' and 'apt-build', is there any way to add in a configuration option (--disable-shared in the following eg.)? Eg. if complied from source, I'll do a ./configure --disable-shared.

2. If I install packageXYZ with 'aptitude -r' (treats recommendations as dependencies), and if I use dpkg or apt-get to uninstall/remove packageXYZ, will the recommended packages that are installed along with packageXYZ be uninstalled/removed too?

Thanks !
