can't use /dev/cdrom in knoppix 3.4

##Does anyone know why I can't use /dev/cdrom in
##knoppix 3.4?
js@45a:~$ ls -ls /dev/scd0
0 brw-rw-rw- 1 root cdrom 11, 0 May 30 2001 /dev/scd0
js@45a:~$ ls -ls /dev/dvd
0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 Jun 13 17:51 /dev/dvd -> /dev/cdrom
js@45a:~$ ls -ls /dev/cdrom

js@45a:~$ sudo eject /dev/dvd
eject: unable to find or open device for: `/dev/dvd'
js@45a:~$ sudo eject /dev/scd0
## /dev/scd0 ejected it
##*** A DVD was inserted into /dev/dvd -> /dev/cdrom with VIDEO_TS
##*** BEFORE I ran K3B I think I was able to ls and see this file system
##*** K3B knows the brand of /dev/cdrom and /dev/cdrom1 but does nothing
##*** The Knoppix 3.4 desktop also won't list contents on /dev/cdrom or cdrom1
## when clicked

But /dev/scd0 is working? Well,
Code:
ln -s /dev/scd0 /dev/cdrom
