Can't get Debian "netinstall" to complete.

I'm running into a problem when attempting to install Debian via the Net Install (Testing) CD. I pop the CD in, run through the basic "base configuration" stuff and everything gets installed fine to that point. I'm then prompted to remove the CD and reboot. I reboot and come up to the "Configuration" part of the install. I enter username/passwords and which mirror to pull the install files from etc.... everything goes fine until after I choose "desktop install" and apt starts to take off installing packages. Apt starts to downloading packages and then stops giving the error message "There was a problem installing selected software....one or more files failed to install...." I've tried different mirrors with the same results. Any ideas on what the problem might be?

I'd suggest that you should check that your network configuration is OK. To test this, you can do the following:

$ su
# ifconfig

If you can post the output of the last command, this might help us to see if your network connection seems to work (or not).

Network connection looks OK. Apt-get updates itself fine after I choose which mirror I want to use (right before the part where I pick which kind of installation I want to do).

Can you verify that apt has actually downloaded the packages you ask it to install? Are there any .deb files in /var/cache/apt/archives/ ? If apt cannot download packages, then the problem is very likely in your network configuration.

One of the virtual consoles should be displaying log messages.
Check that (by Alt-F2. Alt-F3 etc) to see what it is (really) complaining about.
(Just the "one or more files failed.." message ain't that helpful.)
Do you have enough diskspace on the partition where /var is located?

I got this same thing going on after a fresh net install. It downloads the packages alright but then pukes at installing. Looks to be a problem with e2fsprogs whatever that is.

If it is that error (e2fsprogs) you need a newer version of the net-installer. Download it a Debian.org and it will install without problems.
