Can't boot after initial install

Just installed testing amd64 netinst. Everything went perfect until reboot. Now I can't get in. I have two HD, XP on SATA and Debian on IDE. I installed GRUB on MBR for IDE. Using a bootmanager I can get to the GRUB menu but when I try any of the four Debian choices I get a no load situation. When I choose XP however it launches. If I do nothing I enter to XP as default. The following is my menu.lst, and I cannot find the grub.coonf file in /etc

Quote:
## ## End Default Options ##

Well, by switching my boot order for hard drives now I can get into Debian. It's not great but it works for the time being. I don't know why but it works now. Now I cannot configure my PPPoE connection. When I run pppoeconf. It times out connecting to my eth0 where the LAN cable is attached. What do I need to do to configure this correctly. I am using DSL with a Dlink wireless router, but this is not the wireless connection it is the "server" if you will.

It seems that your system first boot from the sata disk. I think this is the master disk foryour system' SATA ( new type of HD) is like scsi ??
So I think you can fix your boot if you install it in the SATA disk.
grub-install sataDevice

in the /boot/grub/menu.list ( not in /etc/grub.conf) put : default 0 to boot by default from the first listed partition, default 1 for the second and so on

best regards
bela
