C compiler cannot create executables


I tried to compile Webalizer but this is the output i have:

Code:
checking whether the C compiler (gcc ) works... no
configure: error: installation or configuration problem: C compiler cannot create executables.
Debian Woody 3
gcc is installed by

apt-get install gcc

I cant remember, and i am not in front of my deban box at the moment, but try apt-get install g++ and you should be ok. f that is wrong i will post the solution when i get to my box.

also this has been asked many times on here, so have a search or try google.com and you may also come up with an answer

Yeps now it works

BUT

What branch are you using? stable testing or unstable? Also what are you trying to install?

ermm sorry i cant help on that one, perhaps if you go to http://www.zlib.org maybe you will find more help there.

Or if you like, try editing your /etc/apt/sources.list

Change the stable comment to testing then save it

apt-get update then apt-get install zlib. once it is installed then change it back to the stable brance

The package you probably need is either zlibc or zlib1g
