If I choose "LOCAL OPERATING SYSTEM IF AVAILABLE" at the startup, then nothing happens, just goes back to the boot menu from Gparted.

BTW I have 2 HDD's: 1 with XP and a second with Lenny and freeBSD.

If GRUB loads but fails to continue - what error message does it receive?

After my initial install, I had to adjust one of the (0,0) to (2,0).
(My debian is on /dev/sdb* or /dev/sdc* - depending on what system I boot with.)

When I booted, and grub appeared - I was able to select the entry in the grub menu, and edit it (`e`, I believe), then boot using the tweak. Once you I though, any manually tweaks from grub itself aren't remembered - but once I knew what I have to change, I think it was the file menu.lst and then I ran grub-install.
(On mine, I did `grub-install /dev/sdc` because that's where I had grub installed.)
