Bluray Support

Hi there,

I am running LMDE 2 on a Lenovo notebook, connected with an USB Bluray drive, but the system does not recognize the drive and disc, but when I put in a DVD disc in the drive the system plays it normally, and when I removed the disc the system still shows the drive but can not recognize the Bluray disc, what am I missing here ?

Please note I am running Debian NOT Ubuntu, so PPA is not supported.

You are NOT running Debian, you are running Linux Mint Debian Edition. (Perhaps this should have been posted in the Linux Mint section - https://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-mint-84/)

How about https://unix.stackexchange.com/quest...o-read-blu-ray

Is your bluray disk encrypted?

I have tried that on Linux and the VLC libraries keys etc will not work sadly. The makeMKV will rip the BR into MKV format than play it in VLC. Now if you want to burn blue ray discs use k3b application. I mostly have a different USB blu-ray burner. Blank blu-ray discs are not cheap. I burn only large files to those. In my case my music wav files would have taken 2 dvds I used one Blu-ray disc which are 25GB vs 4.7GB. Blu-ray movies may never be played on Linux for some time.
