bcm43xx

I have Debian 4 on my laptop, kernel 2.6.not sure.
The init scripts load the module bcm43xx, which comes up with the problem, that it doesn't have the microcodes, which are property of Broadcom. So the module can't work.
Under Suse, I changed to ndiswrapper, and following a graet tutorial from someone called... vangengas, or something like that, it worked fine.

The same steps in Debian don't, most probably, reading the text in the install scripts, because I need kernel 2.6.6, and I have 2.6.5.1 or so.

Anyone know a great tutorial to upgrade my kernel? For Debian?

Thanks!

To upgrade the kernel, simply do aptitude install linux-image-2.6. It should upgrade to kernel 2.6.18.

I haven't used ndiswrapper before. But you might try installing and using module-assistant to help you out.

the other option is to use the drivers which came with your wireless interface and cut the microcode out using the bcm43xx fw cutter then put them into /lib/firmware the firmware cutter is here:

But ndiswrapper also works well
