audacity record souund system

I've found somewhere on the forum I need to check whether "wave" in alsamixer is not muted. There is another posibility: change source in audacity to "wave". There is no option like this in my program and I don't know where can I find that "wave" in alsamixer. Can anyone help me?

I don't use any like artsd, jack... Just alsa + fluxbox + audacity.

Not all sound cards and drivers have a wave mixer control/device. What, exactly, are you trying to do here?

I want to record a sample of sound from a movie I open with mplayer. I don't want to extract whole sound from that avi. Just record what I hear. I have mixing (hardware I suppose because there was no need to alter any config file to achieve it). I found there was easy way to do it with audacity. However, audacity isn't offering this functionality now.

It's not a matter of what audacity does and doesn't allow. It's your sound card. The only cards I've ever seen that have a recordable "Wave" device (letting you record what you hear) are the SoundBlaster Live (and some Audigy cards) and the Yamaha DS1 cards. What sound card do you have?

IIRC, alsa may support a virtual loopback device (snd-aloop?) that imitates this functionality. Perhaps try that.
