Ati driver problems with x1600 x server & everything

Hello everybody,

i hope there isn't a similar thread like this one but i'm totally mad with this ati drivers. I've been trying to install them for like 2 days now. I've read probably all of the google and still i cant make them work. So here is what i do. Please read it and tell me what i'm doin wrong.

So ... first i install debian, i put ftp.bg.debian.org in my soruce.

Then i do apt-get update , then dist-upgrade

It starts downloading , then i install kde-core & xserver-xorg

it starts downloading again and then i get gdm.

After all that is done i download the latest ati driver and module-assistant build-essential fakeroot dh-make debconf libstdc++5 gcc-3.3-base ... and everyother possible package that i read somewhere it could be needed. After that i followed the instructions from here and it didnt work. When i do startx i get no screens found , fatal IO error 104 on X Server ":0.0".

other thing i tried to do is ./ati-balbla --buildpkg Debian/etch then install the .deb stuff and still when i try startx i get "Fail to load module "fglrx" (module requirement mismatch,0)"

Please somebody help me out -.- if i'm doin everhting wrong please tell me what to do step by step.

First try the driver from stanchina in unstable. It's easier. If that doesn't work you need to either install the same compiler the kernel was compiled with or recompile the kernel with the compiler installed install that kernel and then do the ati.run thing - that should fix the mismatch thing.
Have a look at the log of the ati installer log first in any case.
