Hi ev1! I'm somwhat of a newbie with some experience with Linux for the past year. I have a ATI 9600. As we know, getting this card working in Linux is a beeatch! Well I finally did it! With the help I found at a site called ATI Linux driver packages for Debian.
http://xoomer.virgilio.it/flavio.sta...-installer.htm
IT works!! Follow the directions very carefully and exactly! I goofed 3 times before I got it right! One thing I want to add. It says don't use fglrxconfig at the end. Well that's the only way I got it to work. Other than that the instructions are priceless!
Here are my results form fglrxinfo:
debian:/home/coolbreeze# fglrxinfo
display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: RADEON 9600 Generic
OpenGL version string: 1.3.4641 (X4.3.0-3.14.6)
Here are my results from glxgears:
debian:/home/coolbreeze# glxgears
2954 frames in 5.0 seconds = 590.800 FPS
4192 frames in 5.0 seconds = 838.400 FPS
4236 frames in 5.0 seconds = 847.200 FPS
4236 frames in 5.0 seconds = 847.200 FPS
4202 frames in 5.0 seconds = 840.400 FPS
4199 frames in 5.0 seconds = 839.800 FPS
4187 frames in 5.0 seconds = 837.400 FPS
4199 frames in 5.0 seconds = 839.800 FPS
4255 frames in 5.0 seconds = 851.000 FPS
I actually get better numbers in another OS so if anyone knows how I can improve please let me know.
I'm no expert so If I can get it loaded then maybe you can too!
I'm glad to be a new linux user!
