ASUS P5LD2 Deluxe and Debian Sarge

Hi guys!

This is my first post in this forum!

I'm really going mad about Sarge 3.1r1.

I have this computer:
ASUStek P5LD2 Deluxe
Intel Pentium 4 630
Kingston DDR2 512MB (x2, total 1GB)
Maxtor SATA 200GB (x2, total 400GB)

My problems are two:
1) My Southbridge (ICH7R) isn't supported (debian-installer keeps saying that it can't find any device to install to);
2) My network card (Marvell Yukon 88E8053) isn't supported (ifconfig says there's not any eth0 even if I modprobe sk98lin).

I previously tried many distros but I decided to stay with Debian because it had never given any problem to me (before I changed my Motherboard).

How can I install it?

I tried do it manually with debootstrap with no luck (grub and lilo refuse to install on MBR), I tried to use "etch" netinstall-CD with same problems...

You will probably want Etch or Sid, there have been several patches lately for that chipset

install a different NIC in the system so you can complete the install, then worry about gettgin the onboard one to work. NIC cards are what, like $5.00 these days ?

Also make sure you asre using the 2.6 kernel during the install use the linux26 command at the boot prompt. 2.6 kernel typically has better device support than the 2.4.

Maybe I will try some day... now I've installed Gentoo 2006.0 and it works very good on my system.

Thanks, Lex.
