apt-get update problem

Hi all,

Debian 7.3 (not new installation)

$ sudo apt-get update
Code:
........
E: Release file for http://ftp.hk.debian.org/debian/dists/wheezy-updates/Release is expired (invalid since 6d 18h 12min 12s). Updates for this repository will not be applied.
Then I found;
[SOLVED] Wheezy sources not working after install
http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=62587

Created /etc/apt/apt.conf
adding one line on the file;
Code:
Acquire::Check-Valid-Until "0";
Ran
$ sudo apt-get update

The complaint disappeared. Please help me to understand the problem and solution. Thanks.

Apparently the repository allowed the signed Release file to expire, they have an expiration date, for various reasons. This means the mirror you were using has not updated its repository in some time.

Can you use a different mirror? In addition to the Release file, there are likely other files out of date. Ignoring the error is really not a good idea.

Find another repository, at least for now. You can check back on the Hong Kong repository now and then to see if the release file is updated, and revert to it when/if it ever is. Since the repository can't update, there is no need to try to update your system using it, since there will be no new files until the repository fixes the issue.

Hi all,

Hong Kong repository has fixed the problem now. I have commented out that line mentioned before.

Thanks
