Never use it but set it up using this page for my niece and nephew's machines it worked perfectly you may want to consider apt-get --purge remove j2re1.4 for the package you installed. There are a couple of obvious typos on the page so keep a look out for them if you use it. Note you may have to use dpkg --purge --force-remove-reinstreq j2re1.4 if apt complains about the error and having to fix it before doing anything.
should have you up & running.
However I'd suggest to install 'java-package', grab j2re bin distribution from sun's java page, `man make-jpkg` and make yourself nice a j2re deb package to install w/ dpkg.
Actually, it's easier than it seems & works like a charm.
WOW, so much help from ppl in the know. I'm not used to this... it's great.
I still use Gentoo on my PC but the debian I installed in on my Son's computer is sweet. Gentoo is great but I find it takes so long to set up. I'll report back once I get a handle on this for my Son.
