apt-build??
has anyone used this?? I followed this guide to a T http://julien.danjou.info/article-apt-build.html
and I cant get it to work I tried doing EXACTLY the same thing as the article and it would not install memstat the error was cant find memstat (paraphrased) |
I haven't used apt-build, but i have installed memstat with apt-get, it's only 8 kb.
macondo@debian:~$ apt-cache search memstat memstat - Identify what's using up virtual memory. macondo@debian:~$ #apt-get install memstat maybe it's too small to be compiled. :) |
I did it.
works fine.I use it as often as I can. The only thing that doesnt seem to work is when I pinned apt-get dist-upgrade to use apt-build....doesnt seem to work. Tested via running apt-get dist-upgrade after a successful apt-build upgrade and it shows pakages that need upgradeing when it shouldnt. I even have done the apt-build upgrade world it took forever but finished successfully. Must follow that page exactly to the T. |
From the looks of it, apt-build is pretty developmental. Check out debtoo, where they mention they're working on it.

I have been using it since I saw the same article. From what I can determin, the Debian maintainers are a bit slow in getting the source code with their patches on the servers.
I have gotten KDE to recompile and it seems a bit zippier now. Now all we have to do is get apt-build to work with distcc (http://distcc.samba.org/index.html) then we can have lots of fun. ;) |
