apache2 permission problems [fixed]

so yeah, this month has been my first month using a linux distro, and so far so good

only when I try to run apache2, I get this error in error_log:
[Thu Oct 21 11:59:22 2004] [crit] (22)Invalid argument: mod_rewrite: Could not set permissions on rewrite_log_lock; check User and Group directives

from what I can gather, it's from user permissions
the only thing I could find on google was a german forum, and I couldn't understand the translation too well

can I just change the "User" in httpd.conf to root, or something with the "Group", or would I have to set up another user account and log into that just to run apache?

chgrp -R nogroup /www/*
chown -R nobody /www/*
Group nogroup

Do not ever change the user of Apache, this is a major security issue.
