apache2 modules

Hello, Im a newbie server admin and I recently with with debian sarge. Im using the plesk control interface. There isnt much system tasks you can do with plesk but 2 modules I need installed badly are mod_evasive and mod_security and I read the readme, it said to make a link in mods-enabled from available and it didnt work. I tried editing the conf to loadmodule and apache wouldnt start back.
Has anyone done this before? Also is it possible to upgrade to php5 on this setup?
By the way, I installed the libapache2-mod-security using apt but Im sure it didnt activate it

The command to use is: a2enmod mod-security, and reload the server config: /etc/init.d/apache2 reload (or force-reload). This is the Debian Way method. Does this work for you?
