Another ca0106 sound Issue

Ok, probably the millionth time this card chipset has appeared on here or anywhere else for that matter. First off, using Debian Lenny, fully updated and using nvidia drivers from their site.
So far I think going through this (Ubuntu) for the 8th time, about the only thing that has worked is the use drivers from alsa project (near the end.) Ran dpkg-reconfigure alsa-source and module-assistant a-i alsa-source. Maybe, just realized something that I am actually getting sound. Except when I compiled the driver the card shows 4 devices of the same card, hw:0,0 analog front always worked, right now hw:0,1 analog front seems to work through vlc and gnome-sound panel, ONLY if autodetect is on. Goes through 0,0 to 0,3.
Firefox, dosen't get any sound at all, no system sounds, xmms and audacious both say something is blocking the sound card.

So, maybe it's just a set-default value? Then again, I'm out of ideas to get this working again.

Thanks,
Xorgroth

Hi, you say something is blocking your soundcard.
Do:

lsof | grep snd

this might tell you something.

That suggests that the sound device is free.
If I do in one terminal

aplay

then I can see in another terminal with the command above that aplay is using the soundcard.

If that works, try to set the output of Audacious to alsa.

If it does not, I am afraid I cannot help much more.

Nah, audacious already on alsa. No, biggie can live without for awhile. Just always breaks every kernel update, guess I won't upgrade.

which soundcard do you have? My SB Live! 24-bit has been detected by every distro since about 2 years without any issues. Even Sidux plays nicely with it.

Hate to revive an old topic but better to keep it in one place.
Jongi: It a Audigy LS, maybe I'll grab a Live!....

Might of over looked this before but looks like my card is being used by another process. Not sure how to look for what is blocking it.
ESD works though, also noticed when ALSA/OSS was using the card, it was through pcm_demix, which might acutally be the analog front.
Output of aplay is
Code:
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:866:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave
aplay: main:546: audio open error: Device or resource busy
aply -l output
Code:
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: CA0106 [CA0106], device 0: ca0106 [CA0106]
  Subdevices: 0/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: CA0106 [CA0106], device 1: ca0106 [CA0106]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: CA0106 [CA0106], device 2: ca0106 [CA0106]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: CA0106 [CA0106], device 3: ca0106 [CA0106]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
#4 is the one being blocked according to gnome sound prefs.

Thanks,
Xorgroth

Nevermind, went into /proc/asound and card model is SB0570, also checked the card itself, which is actually a Audigy SE. Which of course hasn't been tested by ALSA, sort of a hit and miss card.
