Amarok won't use Msql

Hello,

I have this weird problem with Amarok (1.4.1) and Mysql-server (5.0.24) on Etch.

Amarok installs fine, and builds the collection fine using Sqlite, but refuses to build the collection using Mysql. No error, no log entry, nothing. I've changed to a wrong pass, wrong host, wrong user, and always get a popup saying it can't connect, so I presume that with the correct credentials, no popup means that it's connecting to Mysql. But after the collection is rescanned, 0 tracks appear. Logging directly into Mysql shows indeed that the database is completely empty.

I have created the mysql database and user according to http://amarok.kde.org/wiki/MySQL_HowTo and I've manually logged in as the "amarok" user and created tables, rows and the like, so privileges must be ok. Both Mysql and Amarok are running on the same machine of course. I know Mysql is functional since a) I can log in directly, and b) my wiki that uses it works fine.

The credentials I give to amarok are:

Host: localhost
Port: 3306 (checked with netstat)
User: amarok
pass: <my_pass>

As you can see, I've checked anything I could, and also googled a lot to no avail.

Any ideas are heartily welcome. I'm sure it must be a config switch somewhere, or something equally simple.

TiA
