Amarok, KScreensaver Not working after apt-get upgrade (/etc/ld.so.nohwcap)
Hello,
For several months now on my Debian Sid installation, Amarok and KScreensaver (and possibly other applications that I have not noticed) have stopped working after any apt-get upgrade. Amarok segfaults on launch and KScreensaver does not start, although I'm not sure if it's segfaulting or crashing in some other manner.
In the past, running this command as root has solved the problem temporarily until the next upgrade: touch /etc/ld.so.nohwcap
I don't understand why this command used to work and I don't remember who suggested it to me, but, in any case, it no longer does the trick. Can anyone suggest a new fix for me?
The recommended method of keeping Sid upgraded is apt-get dist-upgrade not upgrade. Try running dist-upgrade. Amarok and kscreensaveer have always worked just fine for me. Upgrade is more for stable, than Sid.
That's a good tip, you're probably right that it's better to dist-upgrade. I'll clarify: my problem also occurs after dist-upgrades.
Thanks for your help.
Let me know if there is any more information I can post to help identify this problem. Here are the last few lines of strace for amarokapp, though it doesn't look very enlightening:
