alsa & kernel 2.6

Can someone help me installing alsa in 2.6 kernel. I know how to install them on kernel 2.4 but it didn't work on 2.6. I triedapt-get install alsa and then alsaconf and it worked great but after reboot it gives fatal error and I have to do alsaconf again to get sounds work. If I'm right there should be alsa drivers included on 2.6 kernel? How can I get them work? My soundcard is SB live 5.1 Thanks

Hi

You have to apt-get alsa-base and alsa-utils for all this to work.
alsa-utils is the package which contains utils such as alsaconf.
So apt-get them, run alsaconf as root, check that your mixer
is not muted. ONce alsa has detected and configured your card run :
Code:
alsactl store
That will store your settings and will prevent you from doing it all over
again after each reboot.

cheers

I have the same problem with my sound card, after basic net inst with kernel 2.4 it doesnt work, what I do is install the latest 2.6 kernel and then install alsa, reboot the system and it works, I should work for you if it worked for my crappy sound card
