After correct nvidia install, I hit a bad resolution in configuration of KDE

Hi there, I have already installed now the nvidia drivers, even I where OK in the first reboot

1) Watched the NVidia logo
2) Watched the KDE enter screen like before I install

But because I see the resolution at 1024x860 being more wide that the screen, I selected with right mouse click in the desktop, configuration of desktop, then I choose screen...

Then I hit the resolution of 800x600 and go just fine I acept, but after that I put the resolution of 1024x768 and because the dialog dosent fit in 800x600 I accidentaly hit "accept" instead of choose "apply" now the led light of the monitor blink... and I dont know how to say to KDE that use the resolution of 800x600.

Also I dont understand why my monitor being able to support 1024x768 the first time (after install) it showed like overflowing the screen and only was able to fit the resolution of 800x600.

I dont know if I been clear about what happened, in fact now Im using lynx, I have entered to console with CTRL+ F2/F3,... also I'm able to see the NVIDIA logo, then see the cursor change to the default of KDE in the logon screen after when entering automatically to the default user (the resolution of the user is used) listen the sound of the enter screen of KDE but the led of the monitor blinks and sure not being able to see what is happening.

By the way, I'm able to hit CTRL+F1 and been able to return to the logon screen AND I CAN SEE IT (the logon screen), but when entering again to my user it blinks .
By the way, I remember that hiting CTRL+"+" or CTRL+ALT+"+" the resolution change in x... but dosent work... by the way, the xrog.conf only have depts of 16 and 24 and resolutions of 1024, 800 and 640.

By the way, when I say being able to resturn to the logon screen I clarify:

After listen the music of the automatic logon and dosent see nothing, I wait a litle, hit CTRL+F! then hit 1 time the "up arrow", hit enter, hit enter again.... and tada!!!! Im in the logon screen .

Yes I can see the logon screen ... but when I enter my user and password it dosent show :S.

(it was the clarification )

Hi there people, I still cant get to my user...

I say before that I can get to the log screen (GDM), I see that there is an "actions" button, I have clicked it, and selected "configure GDM".

In that window, I have selected to stop entering to the default user (my user).
Also I see that iirc in security there is a button for "configure X server" or something like that... In that window there is a command some like

Code:
/usr/share/bin/X -nolisten tcp
or something like that (dont remember)...

I guess in that place I can put to force start the resolution at 800x600 at 24 bits????

Im only able to see the logon screen.. the GDM window, after that, the led of the monitor only blinks.

Hi there, the correct path I follow from GDM login manager is the following:

GDM -> Actions -> choose an option -> configure GDM (accept) -> password (accept) -> tab security -> configure X server. In the command say "/usr/x11R6/bin/X -audit 0"

I have killed gdm and launching manually X with a configuration file obtained from run "X -configure" (when X was killed) deleted all the display subsections except the one of 24 and added the line: Modes "800x600" and added the "dev/psaux" for my mouse. With this configuration I can click CTRL+"+" and CTRL+"-" for rotate between the resolutions... but when I do in the console GDM and open the login screen, enter my user/pass, I see nothing more than the resolution reflected in the blinking led of the monitor... and the CTRL+"+"/"-" dosent rotate nothing.

Perhaps you will say, this guy write very bad english... OK.

here is what I can find on internet about what I do...

I have clicked righ mouse in the desktop after a sucessfull nvidia driver install, clicked configure Destop and opened the following dialog

http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/915...ion11148oj.png

then I have hited the "display" at the left and then I opened the following dialog (in english)

http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/4...olution0tq.png

After that I select 800x600 hit test, say accept the resolution... but when returning to 1024 I hit accidentaly "Accept" instead of "apply" and the problem have started XD...

Hope now you have a beter idea of what Im doing....
  • launching manually x work
  • launching GDM work
  • In the 2 anterior cases the NVIDIA logo is show

The problem come when I enter my user or root and I log in to KDE (also happend with GNOME)...

How I change the KDE resolution that is affected by such dialogs (I know now that they are not ruled by the xorg.conf, because each user can select between the resolutions aproved in such file).

Hope now that you can help me .

Problem +/- solved...

CTRL+"+"/"-" work (from the start), but when entering after login to my user, then I dont give enough time for kde to start answering to such combination of keys... then the solution to the problem was there, but I dont give enought time to my computer to start .

Anyway, the problem why I have changed the resolution first time, still there here is a screenshot http://img102.imageshack.us/img102/9...ktopveo0ey.png like you see, Im only able to see a part of the 1024x768 desktop (like if my monitor was about 800x600 or so) the limit +/- is the red lines, tought the ksnapshoot is 1024x768 the correct size!!!!

I like taht I can see now my desktop, but I dont like this feeling of not being able to see the whole screen at 1024x768 even that my monitor support it, is a samsung synmaster 550v irc.

Also I dont know why in that place the refresh are 70 and 85 and my monitor aparently dosent work at 70 :S....
