Acrobat Reader 9
hi
Howto install Acrobat Reader 9 on Lenny? |
It's in the repos as "acroread" or download it directly from Adobe.
Frankly, I recommend against the Acrobat Reader. It's bloatware. Gnome on Lenny should already include the Gnome app for reading PDFs and maybe even xpdf (it's been a couple of years since I used Debian). My choice for a PDF reader is Okular, which should also be in the Debian repos (I know it's in the Ubuntu repos); it should install and run just fine, even though it is a KDE app. On Windows, I use Foxit rather than the Acrobat Reader. There's also a Foxit for Linux which I've heard good things about. |
Acrobat reader, or acroread as its package is named, is found in the non-free part of the debian multimedia repo.
Bloatware or not, acroread has features that opensource readers don't, so it may be useful to some. For instance, I hate the "habit" that every opensource reader has. That is to load in memory the entire pdf file, making my pc slow down when looking at a pdf where 1 image = 1 page. |
Add deb http://www.debian-multimedia.org lenny main non-free to your sources.list
then do aptitude update;aptitude install debian-multimedia-keyring acroread $ apt-cache policy acroread acroread: Installed: (none) Candidate: 9.3.4-0.0 Version table: 9.3.4-0.0 0 500 http://www.debian-multimedia.org/ unstable/non-free i386 Packages |
