[help] sound

Hi,

I have no sound in debian etch even
though I enabled it under preferences > sound.

My default desktop is gnome.

please try to use better titles in future. "sound" is not informative about your problem, and this is a help forum, so no need to say "help"...

What sort of hardware are we talking about? Check the specs on your computer (either your manual or online or use "lspci" in a terminal). Without knowing that, it's not so easy to diagnose the problem.
