Persistance in DSL?

[Log in to get rid of this advertisement]
Ok I was reading the Persistence page on the DSL wiki but it only talks about a live-cd persistence.

I have it set up as installed (Not frugal) but it still saves all configuration into a tar file.

This normally ISN'T a problem for me but now that I have all my things on the laptop (2 GB) It takes almost 8 minutes to boot up and shut down.

This has become a BIG Problem.

Is there a way to make my /home directory permanent and not in the tar file?

I would first ask what are the specs of your computer?
ram, hd size,etc

and, it seems your trying to run MyDSL apps in hd-install mode?
saving settings back to backup.tar.gz?

Its a 2.2 GHZ CPU with 1 GB of ram.

The speed isn't a problem for me. I didn't mention ANYTHING about MyDSL apps nor does it have anything to do with this.

the hard disk is a 100 GB hard disk.

I put things like games and the Java JDK on it and that is what is filling up my backup.tar.gz

I didn't know if there was a way to permanently store those files on the actual hard disk instead of being recreated every time at boot.
