not know Initial steps
hi,
i have successfully installed dsl to my pendrive.but i want it to ask me password evertime i login and second wish is to make it boot default with toram option within 3 seconds thanks for any help. regards, tom. |
hi tom.
when you install dsl to a pendrive, it asks you which boot time options you wish to pass as default. (you know when you actaully do the install - along with nfs client, etc etc). then you can add "toram". i would suggest re-installing on your pen drive.... not sure about the password.... |
Found another way
hi,
Thanks for ur kind help. but i think this will be better. dsl generates a file name syslinux.cfg in the pen drive.just we shall open the file and edit it manually so no need to format and reinstall. Finding a way to get with the password issue. Regards, Tom. |
The boot option "secure" is available, which will prompt for a password for root and dsl.

hi,
i tried adding it in syslinux.cfg but it asks me for new passwords for both dsl and root account everytime.i will try it by using it as a install option!thanks regards, Tom |

hi,
exactly u are corrrect, i need it to authenticate me(i.e.,) to ask for existing user name and passwords. but how to install a multiuser dsl system on a pen drive? regards, tom. |
Well, a simple way to do just the password prompt would be to backup /etc/shadow after setting your password(s). This will not provide you with a login prompt, though...you'll still be automatically logged in.
It might be possible to select a multi-user system during an install, but I can't say for sure. I've never used the install scripts. If the installation does not give you a multi-user option, you can still tweak an existing frugal system to accomplish this. I did this with my own frugal DSL, and have not had trouble with it. http://damnsmalllinux.org/cgi-bin/fo...ST;f=26;t=7936 (the first post is the relevent one) |
