Question NIC question

I have just installed DSL on an old system to check it out, and am having a problem with the NIC card.

When I run DSL from the CD-ROM, my network card works, I can access the internet. But after I install DSL to the HDD, it says I have no network adapter installed?

What is the problem, and how can I fix it?

I am a total noob to Linux, so nice easy instructions would be helpful.

From the bash shell, I typed "sudo -u root dsl-hdinstall" and it took over from there, all I had to do was select which partition to install it to.

When I go to Apps->System->Netcardconfig", it tells me I don't have any supported network cards.

The card I am using is a 3Com 10mb NIC.

When I run DSL from the CD, the NIC works fine. Is it a driver issue, maybe a file not being copied??

Thanks for any and all help.

When I run modprobe, I get the error message

"modprobe: can't open dependancies file /lib/modules/2.4.22/modules.dep (No such file or directory)"

What I did find was a file /lib/modules/2.4.20-xfs/modules.dep

How can I get modprobe to access this file instead??
