Modem configuration

Well, I checked for similar threads and nothing was similar enough. I have a couple of issues with the configuration of DSL, the monitor and the modem. I can live with the monitor problem, I just select another workspace to go around the problem. The modem configuration is my main concern. I ran the configuration script for the modem and it could not find my modem port. No problem, I know what it is from setting up another distribution. I selected the appropriate port for my serial modem and also selected CHAT, as that is the correct protocol. Alright, now to dial. I get a number of messages scrolling past, an init string for the modem.....and then nothing. I tried every configuration I could think of to see why it would not work, even tried PAP although I know CHAT is correct. Any ideas would be appreciated. Also, if more information is needed please be specific, I am not a novice to technology but am to Linux, and may not grasp what may seem obvious. Thanks in advance.

Wink

If you want to reduce the problem it's good to buy a router and a network card.
The only think where do you must to be attention is that the network card is supported from your distribution of linux.
This is an example.
I have two computer (a Celeron and a Athlon 64) when i have tried damn small linux, in the Celeron i'm connected on internet while not in the second.
But if i a day buy an inexepensive network card the problem is resolved.
It avoids modem, the best solution is router.

Bye
