Linux ppt viewer

I'm running DSL on a Toshiba 3015 with a 266 Mhz P2 and 96 M of memory and a compact flash card in place of the hard drive. Set up works nice and I get about 3.5 hours to a battery charge. I teach at a local college and really need a viewer program for MS ppt files. I'd normally install Open Ofice but its really to big for this little machine. Any help at finding a ppt viewer would be appreciated.

Thanks

It looks like Microsoft has a free viewer. http://www.google.com/search?q=ppt+v...S177US235&aq=t It might run on WINE.

with only 96M of memory, just about any solution is going to be tight---just the ppt file can be big.

Is it possible to convert to pdf?

Google Docs now allows you to access your files offline, so you theoretically should be able to open your Powerpoint presentation from your web browser.

However, Google Docs offline requires that you install Google Gears. According to the Google Gears web site, there IS a linux version, but I have no idea what would be required to get it to work via the MyDSL system.

If you try this method, please let us know how well it works. An offline version of Google Docs running on DSL could potentially be a really good way to have a lightweight office suite that's more powerful than TED and SIAG, but less of a memory hog than OpenOffice.

I also agree that saving your powerpoint presentation as a PDF would be a good alternative, but the PDF viewer that comes with DSL (XPDF) doesn't appear to have a "fullscreen mode".

If you can find a PDF viewer for Linux that DOES have a fullscreen mode, that would be a really good alternative. Maybe GSView would do the trick? It's available under myDSL as a UCI package.

Another possibility. Since I prefer using preconfigure DSL packages whenever possible, I did a search for "powerpoint" in the myDSL browser. The results I got were rox.dsl and impress1.1_beta9.dsl. I didn't try installing them to see if they'd do what you want, but you could try.
