Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

I went to the DSL Forum on LQ and found DSL ver.3.4. I tried to download it and got the infamous message, "This Page Can Not Be Displayed." How should Metalink programs be used?
I don-a-no since I'm still reading the book. But, I did download VMplayer installed the player(within[?] Win XP) and then downloaded the DSLappliance (get both at vmware.com). Everything went well I am currently running DSL 3.3 there in VM. Just found out that I have to give some boot options in order to run the network and create root login/pswd so as to start other deamons. DSL is a little slow in responding in a VM so one has to be patient in particular with the mouse buttons.
The book is good, has a CD, but you can go to a book store and read it there for the info..........the book will help.
isnt there a live cd already that you can download from the site? Or am I missing something
........Well, you got me on another "Ah don no". The live CD comes with the book's CD but I seem to remember something that indicated all standard DSL come as live CD's so it is likely that a downloaded DSL is also a live CD. You are best to do a little look around and see, to be 100% sure.
I'd like to help a little more but just had radical surgery (for me) and am under bad weather right now for a couple of weeks.
........Come back and let us know what you've found out, for sure ?
