DSL won't boot from USB Flash Drive

Following the instructions posted at the url 'fuzzymunchkin.dyndns.org/tdot/usbkeyfob/index.php3' , I made a USB flash boot disk for damnsmalllinux (DSL). When I boot onto it, it displays a 'j' in the upper left of the screen, followed by a blinking underscore, then stops.

I'm using a SanDisk Cruzer micro, 256 MB, with a HP pavilion 752n.

I am using DSL 0.9.3 and syslinux 2.11.

If it matters, the flash drive was mounted on sda1
