DSL Monitor Resolution is wrong
 

hey guys.

i have a very very old laptop, HP OmniBook 800CT... VEEERY old, and i was trying to install DSL on it. since it does not support booting from CD, i made boot floppies. ok. i also copied the KNOPPIX and the Boot folders into C:/KNOPPIX, so that it wouldnt have to access the CD after boot (it wasnt managing)..

so everything went fine, everything booted... and then it got to the main GUI screen... and the color and resolution is all wrong.. i only see purple and green.. veeery fuzzy. i was wondering if there was a file i could edit so that i could fix this. remember... it boots straight into the GUI.. i have no command-input time.. soooo.. any ideas???

hmm just tried that, but all i see then is a very blue screen :O

what about you try booting dsl with fb option?
something like fb640x480 ...
could work (hopefully)

Well if the screen is even readable you could try to configure the xserver. If not you could try to see if it will allow you to login to the laptop from a serial connection with a null modem or console cable. I think DSL will let you do that.

No, it won't - not by default, anyway. But you could start SSHd after you configured your network...

Agrouf's idea should solve the problem when booting from the live CD (or the hard drive using your method) or a "frugal" install. Before you boot, you can have a look at the cheat codes hitting "F2". "fb800x600" should work on your machine.

Basically, you're simulating a live CD boot process whenever you load DSL. Did you try to do a "frugal" install from there? This should be possible and would make for a giant step in convenience (you could even save most of your settings!).
